WTF is a Zero Aluminium Deodorant
Back in the day, there was just different brands of deodorant. All of which did essentially the same thing. Now there’s deodorant with all sorts of marketing claims. Zero aluminium, 72-hour protection. Natural. Clinical Strength. But what does it all actually mean.

Before ND1, there were two choices. Deodorants with aluminium that blocked up your pores and stopped you sweating. And deodorants without aluminium that just masked smell with fragrance.
What Does Aluminium Do?
Aluminium salts in deodorant act as a physical barrier to sweat. They sit in your pores and prevent your body’s ability to sweat. While this is very effective in stopping you from stinking, it is messing with your body’s natural processes. There is also some research that indicates a potential link to long-term health effects, however the jury is still out on that one. Aluminium salts are also the main ingredient responsible for yellow stains on your clothes that are caused by traditional deodorants.
Why Do I Stink After Sweating?
Sweat doesn’t actually smell. But it does contain fatty acids. These fatty acids are broken down by bacteria on your skin into odour-causing compounds. It’s not the sweat that’s bad, it’s the bacteria that makes it smell.
What Do Most Zero Aluminium Deodorants Do?
The short answer: not a whole lot. Because they don’t contain anything to stop sweat or any ingredients designed to neutralise odour, they try and absorb the sweat with ingredients like baking soda and mask the odour with fragrances. It’s a band-aid solution rather than anything with substance.

What Makes ND1 Different?
ND1 uses an ingredient called Niodor. Niodor is an anti-bacterial ingredient that neutralises the odour causing bacteria which prevents fatty acids in your sweat from being broken down into compounds that stink.
Is ND1 An Anti Perspirant?
ND1 is not a traditional anti-perspirant as it still allows your body to sweat, however ingredients in the formula like tapioca starch hold moisture which helps with keeping your underarms dry and comfortable all day long.
Why Does ND1 Last So Much Longer Than Regular Deodorant?
The answer is simple - concentration. Because other brands are available at the supermarket, they want you to be buying every few weeks so they dilute their products with fillers. ND1 on the other hand is hyper concentrated - with only one swipe up and one swipe down needed on each underarm. This means you use less, with guys telling us that one ND1 tube typically lasts them around six months compared to the 4 weeks they get out of most fragrances.
Let’s Talk Fragrance
Most traditional deodorants smell like a teenage boy’s locker room. Most natural deodorants smell a little ‘earthy’ to put it politely. We wanted ours to smell like a fragrance costing hundreds of dollars. So we worked with a fragrance house to create a scent that a lot of guys tell us is suspiciously similar to Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino.
Is It Good For The Environment?
By design. By making our formula hyper concentrated, one stick lasts a whole lot longer which means less packaging in existence and less shipping emissions too. We also make that packaging from 100% recycled plastic which is 100% recyclable plus the outer is made from FSC-certified cardboard. It’s also vegan, cruelty free and contains no sulphates or parabens.
