Niodor is the hero ingredient in our ND1 Zero Aluminium Deodorant. It works by capturing the molecules created when bacteria on your skin break down sweat. By trapping those odour-causing molecules, ND1 stops them being released into the air and keeps you smelling fresh all day long.
3 MINUTE ANSWER
To develop ND1, we had to go back to what causes odour in the first place. Sweat itself doesn’t smell. But bacteria on your skin break down the compounds in sweat into molecules that create the stink. Traditional deodorants get around this by using aluminium salts. These salts block up your pores and stop the sweat from coming out in the first place. It’s super effective, but it prevents your body’s natural processes and there is some research indicating potential long-term health effects.
Most zero aluminium deodorants work differently (and not very well) - they use ingredients that lower the PH of your armpits to slow bacteria activity and use a fragrance to mask it. They do something to reduce the sweat, but don’t stop it entirely.
Those were always the two options - one that’s effective but with some potential health risks, and one that’s natural but doesn’t fully work.
That was until we discovered Niodor. Niodor is a form of Zinc Chloride Hydroxide. A crystalline structure with a huge surface area on a microscopic scale. This surface area allows it to capture the molecules responsible for body odour before they can escape into the air.
The technical term is adsorption. Instead of soaking something up like a sponge absorbs water, the odour molecules bind to the surface of the Niodor particles. This means they stay trapped on your underarms rather than being released into the air where you and everyone else can smell them. It also helps manage moisture and inhibit bacterial growth, which means it attacks the problem from several different directions rather than relying on fragrance to disguise it.
We combine Niodor with other ingredients including Tapioca Starch to help absorb excess moisture, Zinc Ricinoleate to help trap odour and Triethyl Citrate to help reduce the processes that cause sweat to turn into body odour in the first place.
The result is ND1. Undoubtedly the best Zero Aluminium Deodorant on the planet.
